LBA-MIP Messages to Participants
January 31, 2008

Dear LBA-MIP participants,

During the AGU Fall meeting this past December we had an informal LBA-MIP meeting with most model groups who were in San Francisco, CA for that conference.  We have now resolved the remaining issues for the LBA-MIP final runs. (see the attachment which summarizes these).

We are now ready to proceed.  There are two important components to this:

  1. LBA-MIP re-runs: all the participants are invited to download the improved drivers (see link below) and re-run the models following the new procedures in the protocol (which nevertheless should have a minimum impact for those who have already set their models up for the previous round).

  2. LBA-MIP workshop: to be held at the Biosphere 2, in Tucson, AZ in late April. The following action needs IMMEDIATE ATTENTION:

We anticipate a 1.5 day workshop in the time period of April 27-29 the only dates still available for using Biosphere 2 facilities this April.  Let us know immediately whether this time period is workable, so that we can reserve the space at Biosphere 2.

Regarding item 1, we do encourage those who had not the chance to participate in the first runs to do so this time.  Please contact us if you need help or discuss any issues related to drivers, model set up, data format or etc.

In order for analysis in advance of the workshop, the deadline for the results of the new LBA-MIP runs should be around mid-March.

Regarding item 2, we may have some limited travel funds from the LBA office. but if you can cover travel from existing projects, please do so to allow us to support those who otherwise could not make it.  Scott Saleska (Saleska@email.arizona.edu) and Maria Theresa McLaughlin (mttrm@email.arizona.edu) will be the main contacts for the workshop organization.

Keep also in mind that it would be important for us to have relevant results by the IV LBA Scientific Conference from July 27-31, 2008 in Manaus, Brazil.

All necessary information including the protocol for model runs, links to datasets, and organizational details for the workshop will be posted at http://www.climatemodeling.org/lba-mip/.

Please contact us with any questions or comments.

Best regards,
